About this expert

Horacio leads the BIO-HPC group at UCAM, where his team builds structural bioinformatics and machine-learning methods for drug discovery and runs them on high performance computing infrastructure. His career has run through Spain, France and Germany, with two Marie Curie fellowships along the way, and he has held a full-time permanent research position at UCAM since 2013. The published record is 210 JCR-indexed articles, 109 of them in first-quartile journals and 34 in the first decile, with an h-index of 41 and around 6,600 citations. He is corresponding author on 76. Eleven PhD theses have been read under his supervision and six more are in progress, he is a named inventor on 11 patents of which 5 are licensed, and he has led 30 competitive projects as Principal Investigator. On the review side, he sits on the editorial boards of Current Bioinformatics and Theoretical Biology and Medical Modelling, has guest-edited six journal special issues, and reviews for more than a hundred journals. He also evaluates grant proposals for the European Commission, the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, Fundación "la Caixa", A*MIDEX in France and Helmholtz in Germany.

Availability

Two to three reviews per month, normally returned within seven to ten working days. Longer methodological audits, for example reproducing a docking or molecular dynamics protocol, need about two weeks notice. Based in Spain, so I work on Central European Time. I read and write English and Spanish.
